Challenges:
Propose, negotiate and execute turnkey contracts for electric power plant construction projects ranging in size up to 80 MW. These projects will typically utilize engines, generators and other ancillary equipment from the company’s facilities across the country. The position is fully responsible for the cost, schedule, and scope for turn-key proposals, created for dealers, MPC’s and the Commercial Power Organization, and is also totally responsible to identify and manage all technical, commercial and contract risks associated with these projects.
This individual will be generally regarded as a technical and commercial expert within the company concerning application of engines in electric power generation applications. As such they are often asked to participate as advisors in various problem resolution or sales support activities controlled by other departments, or subsidiaries. The complex turnkey projects that are managed by this position carry significant contract and technical risk for the company requiring significant experience in the power business and a high degree of technical and commercial ability for this management position.
Job Scope:
- Manage the technical and commercial integrity, scope of supply, cost, quality, schedule and contract risks associated with the execution of complex turn-key power plant construction projects ranging in size up to 80 MW. The value of these projects often exceeds $50 Million and involves teams of 15 to 20 functional experts. The project manager is the main customer contact during the execution phase of projects.
- Manage all activities of various sub contractors that are hired to provide engineering and / or construction services for complex turnkey power plant construction projects ranging in size up to 80 MW. The value of these contracts range in value up to $20 to $25 Million.
- Generate turnkey power plant proposals for projects ranging in size up to 80 MW. These proposals include total accountability for project costs, technical integrity and schedule. The project manager will be a key contributor in final project negotiations and contract development.
- Coordinate factory activities related to building engine / generator products and selection and purchasing of ancillary equipment. This includes appraising supplier selections, directing project needs into factory schedules, hosting witness tests, customer visits and tours, etc.
- Develop and maintain sales tools including standard contracts, term sheets, designs, cost models, proposal packages, etc. to meet the needs of the Commercial Power Organization worldwide sales offices.
- Oversee and approve systems engineering activities related to power plant construction. Conduct periodic project design reviews with Caterpillar project engineering, contractor engineers, and owner engineers. Maintain complete document control on all project-related communication.
- Provide technical consultation to customers, consultants, dealers and CPO sales organization prior to contract finalization in order to influence site requirements and contract terms to minimize the risk profile and maximize margin potential for the company.
