Background: For the past ten years, wind power has been the engine of growth for the North American renewable energy market.  During this time, a number of overseas-based, international companies have penetrated the U.S. and Canadian markets, establishing footholds in North America and making strategic acquisitions of American and Canadian organizations.  One of these companies is a European wind turbine manufacturer that started exporting turbines to the U.S. several years ago.

Challenge: Our client, which historically has covered the U.S. market from Europe, made the decision to establish a North American operation in the Western part of the United States.  The company’s international leadership team asked RSMR to identify, attract, and hire a leader for the North American business, someone who had been active in the U.S. and who understood the intricacies of the regional landscape.

Action: Since our client’s hiring team was based in Europe, we quickly determined that we’d need to be exceptionally organized in order to fulfill their timeline.  We spent a lot of time calibrating the role up front, and once we had pulled together a slate of candidates, coordinated all meeting arrangements.

Resolution: RSMR was successful in developing a slate of highly-qualified and interested professionals that matched the company’s ideal candidate profile in time to have four of them interview during a national industry conference.  The client was able to zero in on the selected finalist and ultimately secured his hire.  During his four years with the company, this executive has overseen the development of several key client relationships in North America; has built an organization of thirty individuals to support the company’s efforts nationally; and, he has established an operation that has earned high marks within the industry.  Despite the highly competitive landscape for turbine manufacturers, our client has been successful in carving out significant market share that continues to grow.
