I&C Engineer, Group Leader

Our client is a full-service consulting, engineering, construction, and operations design firm with a worldwide presence.  They are one of the premier firms working in water/wastewater and environmental engineering.  This individual will lead a small group of instrumentation and controls, water/wastewater engineers at one of this company’s five state-of-the-art design centers.  The Group Leader should have extensive instrumentation and controls experience, preferably with water/wastewater projects.  Technical talent is of utmost importance, as the Group Leader will serve as the lead instrumentation and control engineer on various projects.  Although business development will not be a primary role, the individual will at times need to give client presentations and write proposals.  The successful candidate will display a combination of leadership skills, technical knowledge, and project management experience. The group provides professional engineering services to both municipal and industrial clients.

Challenges:

The demand for new water plants has created a significant work load for this group.  This individual must strategically coordinate group efforts to meet I&C needs for these projects.  The shortage of I&C engineers makes it difficult to recruit team members, and ultimately meet the demand.  Our client’s past success has created high expectations. Thus, the Group Leader must quickly establish credibility with engineers and clients.  The individual must display outstanding capabilities with management, leadership, project management, and technical skills.

Job Scope:

- Provide limited assistance with business development; meet with clients to develop new business; develop proposals and presentations with potential clients.
- Develop scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for projects.
- Supervise staff, including assigning staff to projects and providing annual staff performance appraisals.
- Review staffing requirements and hiring/reducing staff as needed.
- Provide monthly management reports as required.
- Perform as lead instrumentation and control engineer on various projects.
- Perform final review of projects and assure quality assurance and quality control requirements are met.

Experience / Education Required:

- Bachelors degree.
- Professional engineering registration, preferably in California.
- Minimum of 10 years experience.
- Technical writing ability, including reports, letters, specifications, and proposals.
- Technical knowledge and performance in a leadership role.
- Experience with client presentations.
- Proficient with standard office software.
- Experience in water/wastewater design.
- Experience in PLC programming; Modicon, Siemens, or Allen Bradley PLC exposure is a plus.
- Experience in HMI Configuration.
- Proficient with HMI/SCADA.
- Experience in startup and commissioning.
