Our client is a leading provider of real estate financing solutions, that include private debt, CMBS, equity and other products. Highly active in equity markets, they are buying between $4 and 5 billion worth of product a year, and are buying $2 billion or more in the multi-family sector. The group is looking to identify a national group leader for the Residential/ Multi-family vertical who will be responsible for setting and hitting group goals, internal team development and esprit de corps, and develop best practices for the group. This individual will be responsible for defining and championing the investment critera for residential for North America. This person will work with both existing and new partners to invest in new asset classes, geographic markets, and new investment positions in capital structures; develop strong relationships with well-known real estate investors and operators; and lead the team in negotiating, structuring, and closing master joint ventures with partners. The position will report to the Head of North American Equity Investments.
Job Scope:
- Develop market investment strategies for multi-family product (development deals, rehab/value creation plays, yield plays, opportunistic buys, market recovery plays, etc).
- Assist in the development of investment parameters and underwriting standards for the multi-family asset class (appropriate cap rates, discount rates, rent growth, expense growth, etc).
- Collaborate with the sales force to drive new business – develop volume targets based on market data and be accountable for volume.
- Identify target customers in multi-family asset class.
- Review all deals in asset class and make recommendations to P&L/risk leaders.
- Oversee asset management of deals in asset class – help drive hold/sell decisions…coordinate asset management efforts with new business initiatives.
- Assist in forecasting P&L by asset class.
- Identify trends in asset class by keeping current with market publications.
- Build knowledge of all major markets in asset class – sale trends, economic drivers, cap rates.
- Serve as active company representative on industry and trade organizations.
- Lead and support internal business reviews for assigned asset class – Growth Playbook, SII, MMR, PQR’s.
Experience / Education Required:
- A minimum of 10 years experience in U.S. real estate equity investment markets with a focus in multi-family real estate transactions.
- Bachelor degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, business or economics is desired.
- Masters degree with real estate concentration is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (particularly writing skills).
- Demonstrated experience in originating and structuring new joint venture or equity real estate transactions.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
- Familiarity with ARGUS.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities while staying focused and meeting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
