ms consultants – Transportation Director

A well-established multi-service provider of highway design and other consulting engineering services in the Midwest is looking to invest in a seasoned engineering leader to oversee all transportation projects for our client’s Indiana operations with particular emphasis on the Indiana DOT.  Combining high quality service with excellent in-house technical resources and delivery methods, our client possesses all the key resources to grow their business in Indiana.  While there are certainly challenges in Indiana, our client is committed to building a lasting presence and a strong track record of client retention.  They need a strong business manager who has a reputation for completing successful highway, traffic or planning projects, who can help them achieve exceptional results.

The best candidate for this opportunity will bring excellence in project delivery and client management; enjoy working on complex, highly visible projects; have critical input on hiring decisions that can make or break project success; be a mentor to junior-level staff and a leader on performance evaluations and compensation reviews; and enjoy a senior-level position with an innovative Indiana firm.  Above all, he or she will embody the company’s philosophy for excellence in highway design, helping the company maintain its position as one of the region’s best firms.  Experience in client management, invoicing and proposal preparation on relevant RFP’s is preferred.

Challenges:

With an abundance of reputable engineering firms competing for the same projects, our client has a very good regional reputation, but is less known in Indiana.  Consequently, they need a leader who can ensure that they are recognized as a future market leader.  As such, we are seeking a dynamic individual who has a proven track record for technical competence, setting high expectations and successfully completing projects with INDOT or other purchasers of consulting engineering transportation services.  Recruiting staff is one of the most difficult and critical elements in building a business.  Putting together competitive teams for their key projects can be challenging.  Furthermore, this person should be someone that others want to work with, so that he or she will enable future growth.

Opportunity:

Our client has several competitive advantages that have made it a successful market player.  A clear vision and willingness to delegate decision making authority; a practical focus on getting the right tools so the jobs can be completed correctly, efficiently and professionally; a focus on growth and profitability.  These features create a very positive environment for continued growth.  This in-turn has created high employee satisfaction and when the business has been financially successful they have experienced low turnover.  Supporting their design teams are state-of-the art technologies that give our client an enviable infrastructure.  This firm is a multi-disciplined firm that competes in a number of business sectors and continues to grow because of their profitability.  Being a part of this dynamic firm should offer any mid-career experience rarely available.  The Transportation Director reports to the Sector Operations Director for the Indianapolis office.
