Vestas America – Senior Vice President, Operations

Our client is a global market leader in the provision of renewable electric power generation equipment, projects, and service.  Their business in North America is growing very aggressively.  It is projected to more than double in 2007 and then double again in 2008.  With the continued aggressive growth of their business, our client now seeks a Senior Vice President to oversee its overall project delivery organization – including project management, logistics/transportation, sourcing, and vendor / subcontractor management.

Challenges:

The Senior Vice President, Operations will serve as the executive leader of our client’s project delivery organization.  As with any project-oriented business, the most obvious challenges revolve around meeting schedules and budgets.  This person will need to evaluate and continually improve the systems, processes, and communication within the organization.  As our client’s project volume continues to grow exponentially, the project operations function must continually grow and improve.  Our client needs a strong manager and leader with the ability to take a high-level view of its operations and ensure that projects are carried seamlessly through the process.  They need someone who can effectively manage and lead a group of four Vice Presidents to ensure that the overall project delivery organization is well-equipped to profitably deliver a high volume of large projects.  The Senior Vice President, Operations will play an integral role in enabling the continued profitable growth of our client’s business in North America.

Job Scope:

- Serve on the executive leadership team of this $1B+ North American Organization.
- Ensure profitable project execution.
- Fine tune policies and procedures to ensure continuous measurements, feedback, and process improvements in operations.
- Lead, mentor, and directly manage four (4) Vice Presidents and an overall group of approximately 100 people.
- Ensure effective communication within operations, between project management, logistics & transportation, sourcing, and vendor management groups.
- Ensure effective communication and handoff from sales to project delivery, within the project delivery organization, and then from project delivery to service.
- Coordinate with legal counsel to provide expertise to resolve contract disputes.
- Successfully be able to communicate and correspond with other Business Units, both domestic and international.
- Identify and develop strong relationships with key individuals in the energy industry.

Experience / Education Required:

- At least 20 years of experience with large, complex capital equipment projects in electrical power generation, process, refinery, or chemical industries.
- Several years of progressively more broad-based senior management responsibility.
- Strong commercial and financial capabilities with extensive contract review and analysis  experience.
- Proven track record leading and growing project delivery organization in North America.
- Preparation and execution of strategic goals (short and long term).
- Ability to oversee a number of individuals’ progress and performance.
- Capable of evaluating and solving problems.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
