Suffolk Construction – Regional Manager, West

Our client is a nationally recognized construction firm with experience in commercial, institutional, and public building projects.  An established leader, this company has secured strategic, long-term relationships with several Fortune 500 companies as well as a number of nationally recognized architectural and engineering firms.  With the growing need for companies that can consistently complete jobs on time and under budget, our client has a reputation for success that is unparalleled in the construction industry.  As a general contractor the company’s project portfolio includes:  commercial office, retail, education, health care, multi-family residential, correctional, laboratory, R&D, and industrial building in both the public and private sectors.

The individual we seek will be a dynamic, enthusiastic, and entrepreneurial general manager, a leader among construction professionals who can discriminate between talent and bravado.  This individual will need to be a quick-thinking visionary, a decisive business development and operations professional who can quickly evaluate the current West Region organization and make difficult but sound business decisions.  This person should have at least 15 years of experience in commercial or public building construction and must exhibit the confidence to work autonomously in an open, employee-friendly system.  As a direct report to the executive management team, this individual will have responsibility for profit & loss, operating expenses, cash management, and capital investment plans while also overseeing recruiting and staff development, business development, and regional operations.  Furthermore, this Regional Manager will provide leadership in the area of sales, contracts, quality assurance, and coordination with other business units.

Challenges:

Our client requires a dynamic, multi-talented individual who can drive revenue goals against the challenges facing all U.S. construction firms:  Difficult economic conditions, stiff competition for both projects and people, and the ever-increasing contractual demands of clients.  Additionally, our client needs to diversify its project portfolio, establish strong partnering relationships, and increase its visibility within the construction and design communities in the West Region.  In the face of these challenges, the successful candidate will be asked to grow the firm’s West Region business operations and project base; formulate a strategy for success in each of the various local markets; build and maintain a winning team to carry out that mission; and execute projects with the same high standards utilized throughout the rest of the company.

Opportunity:

Though the West Region accounts for a relatively small portion of the entire company’s revenues, it is in the center of one of the country’s fastest growing building markets and thus a key area for future growth.  The region requires an individual who understands the local market, can hire and motivate leaders, and can build confidence with local owners, public institutions, and architects to establish a consistent flow of construction projects.  In order to execute this business plan, our client seeks a polished construction executive with the professionalism, focus, and confidence to direct the expansion of the company’s West Region business.  This individual will be given the authority to make critical changes in the region’s current operation and will be required to provide a blueprint for future success.  The successful candidate must understand what it takes to positively impact the organization’s bottom line in both the short- and long-term.  Our client rewards its successful executives.  Expanded leadership responsibilities and financial growth are readily offered for the individual capable of creating success.  As the most visible member of the regional management team, this person will have a direct and lasting impact on the success of the company.
