What is Thought Leadership (note the capitalization) and why do companies of all stripes feel it's necessary to hit customers over the head with it? Well, beyond the obvious desire to create a science out of thought leadership, there's little else other than a few easily verified credentials to objectively evaluate a business partner. However, the truth is always more complicated than that. Intangibles, subjectives, instincts and gut feelings are the things upon which we base our decisions. Humans are not algorithms and, thus, we've been given the gifts of discernment and wisdom. A blizzard of white papers and a steamer trunk full of case studies later, clients of professional services companies want competence, savvy, experience and a sense of humor from their partners. RSMR, while giving up not one inch of ground in the objective qualifications arena, understands that clients come to smaller firms because they're more personal and personable. We can certainly pour on the MBA talk, cite inscrutable documentation and do elaborate modeling when it's needed. But we believe true thought leadership is far more human and multi-dimensional than the usual bag of tricks.
