This client is well-capitalized and is currently developing more than 20 wind energy projects compromising more than 7500 MW. Their business is poised for explosive growth in 2008 as they continue to utilize their decades of expertise and experience in development, design, construction, finance, and operations across a number of industries.
Challenges:
The Vice President will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and manage the regional office while working to enhance their renewable portfolio. The individual will also be responsible for overseeing the full scope of development on a number of key wind projects throughout the large region. This will include identifying potential sites, conducting initial analysis of wind and transmission resources, negotiating the appropriate agreements and permits (including siting, building, land use, and environmental), evaluating requests for bids, following projects through grid interconnection and power sales, and preparing project proposals and presentations toward project construction. This individual will establish and maintain relationships with land owners, county communities, regulators, environmental consulting firms, logistics firms, trade associations, city and state level governmental representatives, and other necessary contacts. The Vice President will play an integral role in spearheading the continued growth and expansion of our client’s renewable business in North America.

Job Scope:
- Create and manage the full scope project development plan including all pre-construction permits.
- Build and maintain relationships throughout the industry.
- Manage project development staff members, including consultants.
- Perform site selection and analysis with the ability to identify and characterize site topography and wind resources. Identify and evaluate transmission alternatives.
- Negotiate land leases and easements.
- Recommend and define land rights for wind development and transmission right-of-way.
- Permit meteorological towers, oversee installation, and arrange data collection and maintenance.
- Regulatory and environmental permitting for Federal, State and local land use and transmission requirements.
- Contract for all necessary land work in preparation of project construction.
- Work related to grid interconnection and power sales.
- Prepare and track project development budgets. Manage development schedule.
- Coordinate project development plans and activities with all internal and external organizations assuring seamless and successful development.
- Proactively anticipate and resolve development related issues as necessary.
Education / Experience Required:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or a related discipline is required; MBA and/or other advanced degrees preferred.
- 5+ years of project management and development experience, preferably with recent wind renewable experience.
- A necessary blend of managerial experience, commercial understanding, and negotiating strength. Finance capabilities are a plus.
