SunEdison – Vice President, Global Market Development

Our client is a leading global solar energy service provider with a significant presence in world energy markets such as the U.S., Canada, Italy, Spain, India, Korea, China, and other countries.  The company has more than 250 MW of installed solar PV generation capacity across more than 400 solar power plants worldwide. The company develops, finances and operates distributed generation solar power plants using proven photovoltaic technologies, delivering fully managed, predictably priced solar energy services for its commercial, government and utility customers.  Our client company is a wholly owned subsidiary of an S&P 500 corporation and a premier manufacturer of silicon wafers for the solar and high technology industries.

Opportunity:

Currently, the executive management team is in the process of re-structuring the company’s organizational chart across the board as the company expands its leadership team and shifts from an entrepreneurial start-up to a full-fledged, mature corporate entity.  Aligning the corporate structural dynamics to a wider business mandate and synergizing closely with its global customer base, the company is re-crafting the marketing organization and will be relocating its corporate headquarters to the Bay Area by 2012.  As part of this process, our client seeks a proven leader to create the company’s three-year market development and strategy roadmap.  Thus far, the company’s executive team has carefully branded, marketed, and promoted its integrated product solutions to tailor them to their customers’ needs worldwide.  As the company moves onto a grander stage with a larger platform and heavily invested resources supporting it, this individual will be tasked with creating a holistic market strategy that will encompass each regulatory environment’s unique requirements and respond to their specific market economics.  He or she will become the company’s lead architect for the company’s global market development and strategy efforts.

Job Scope:

- Senior market development professional to head up its global Market Development & Strategy group.
- Responsible for evaluating global energy markets and developing strategies to increase solar energy penetration at economics favorable to our client.
- Develop a three-year strategic roadmap for the growth of solar into new markets around the world.
- Build out and lead a team of analysts and market development professionals focused on opening new markets and developing the company’s go-to-market strategy.
- Work with government officials and international agencies to understand the financial, economic and political drivers of solar adoption and create solutions to address those needs.
- Collaborate with country managers and the product development team to identify attractive customer segments and new service opportunities for our client company.
- Reports to the company’s Chief Marketing Officer.

Experience / Education Required:

- Candidates  must  demonstrate  an  ability  to  work  in  a  fast-paced  project-oriented, highly entrepreneurial  environment,  to  work  independently,  and  to  deliver  results  on  time.
- Ten plus (10+) years of total experience in leading market development and strategy for traditional power and/or renewable energy companies, IPP’s, and/or other relevant industry organizations.
- Extensive management consulting and/or financial sector experience is highly desired.
- Demonstrated ability to translate large quantities of information on complex subject matter into practical, long-term business strategies.
- Self-motivated problem solver with the ability to lead teams tackling complex projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop effective working relations with colleagues and clients across different functions, office locations and time zones.
- Undergraduate degree required.  MBA strongly preferred.
